Wildlife and energy at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice

A green roof will soon be gracing the new building at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice in Barnet, London. And it will be a green roof with a difference. With solar panels and native wildflower vegetation, this biosolar roof will bring both energy and life to the project. Bridgman & Bridgman in partnership with Bauder Ltd started construction in October 2018. We were fortunate to being able to time-lapse the construction and shall continue to film the roof as it changes over time. By spring the roof will be a flourishing wildflower meadow in the sky, helping to support native wildlife. At the same time the solar panels will be producing renewable energy.

Noahs Ark Hospice - bioslar roof

Week 1 | Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice green roof starts to take shape

All good green roofs need a sound waterproofing layer. Previously installed by an approved Bauder contractor, over the last few weeks the green roof and mounts for the solar panels have been installed.   Bauder bioSOLAR is one of the best integrated solar green roof systems. The mounting system ensures that the solar panels are secure on the roof.   As biodiversity is an important deliverable of the roof, the system also allows for native wildflowers to be used. And last but not least, the mounting system is such that the flowers have no negative impact on the panels.

We are not absolutely certain, but think this may be the first time such an installation has been filmed. And in the weeks to come we should be producing further videos as the roof installation unfolds. And hopefully in spring, when the flowers and pollinators take up residence, the full beauty of the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice green roof will feature too.
