Livingroofs.org is always keen to see green roofs on schools. The
Remarkables
 Primary
School in Queenstown, South Island, New Zealand have been in touch to celebrate both their new school and it's green roof.It is the first green roof school in the whole of New Zealand.

The purpose of the green roof is twofold. Firstly the green roof blends the school landscape - and what a landscape, and secondly to provide an environment for greater learning. The students at the school are able to visit the green roof via a boardwalk which acts as 'a unique green entranceway' to the learning facility. This not only enegages the students but is a big part of the bothe the 'feel', 'look' and ethos of the school. The plan is that this area will also act as an outdoor classroom.

The green roof was designed and installed by Greenroofs Ltd - the NZ's leading green roof company. It was important that the roof's vegetation be able to survive the harsh winters in the western South Island. So the roof has been planted with a variety of sedums and native plants, specifically Raoullia
Australis and Raoullia
 Hookerii.

Livingroofs.org wish the school and Greenroofs Ltd luck and hope somehow that we will get down to Queenstown someday to visit!
