It is now over ten years since the extenisve green roof was installed between the biomes at the Eden Project . The original green roof was provided by Alumasc-Exteriors Ltd and consisted of a intensive greeen roof with 200mm substrate.

Although the annuals that were planted provided a riot of colour in the first year. The roof has since been planted with a 'band' of bulbs curving between the biomes. These flower from early February right through spring and create a visually draw to the otherwide green of the roof.
The roof is also connected to ground level. This has had some on foreseen consequences, reports to livingroofs.org imply that Wood Mice enjoyed the roof, so much so that they create nests in thepolystyrene drainge layer beneath the green roof. Not surprising really considering the warmth the drainge board provides to the young Wood Mice! From a building managers point of view perhaps a bit of a nuisance, but it certainly adds to the biodiversity of the roof.
Please note rodent infestations of green roofs are not a regular occurrence but happen here because the roof was connected to the ground.
Other green roofs in Cornwall include Tremough Campus and a small green roof in Sennen, near Land's End, on a domestic house
