DOCTORAL STUDENT POSITION
The interdisciplinary research program Enhancing Sustainable Urban Development through Ecosystem Services - ENSURE is inviting applications for a
Studying biodiversity on green and living roofs for 1.5 years.
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to study green roofs. Currently we have a start-off funding for 1,5 years, but we aim to achieve continuation up to 4,5 years. The position is funded by the Helsinki University Centre for Environment HENVI.
Research will be conducted in close cooperation with the staff of Finnish Museum of Natural History (FMNH) and the Urban Ecology Research Group. Office facilities will be provided in the inspiring environment of Kumpula botanic garden, which is part of the Botanical Unit of FMNH, University of Helsinki, Finland.
The focus of the thesis is on plants and biodiversity. The practical tasks include:
1) gathering of observational data in a pre-planned study design, the planning and running of experiments, statistical analyses and writing of scientific papers under the supervision of the research program leader and other researchers in the project; and
2) coordination and cooperation with researchers from different disciplines and with companies and authorities, production of web page contents, applying external funding, co-supervision of master’s thesis, and other teaching.
Previous skills in Bayesian approaches in statistics or a willingness to learn Bayesian methods are beneficial, good social skills are necessary.
