Green Roof Case Studies

Roof and Façade Greening

Organic Roofs is a specialist carpentry and roofing enterprise, focusing on the design, installation and maintenance of green roof systems.
Based in Brighton but operating throughout the UK, our work is built on a simple principle: to maximize effect while minimizing impact. Every roof is built with mindfulness towards its environment and those who will use and observe it.
Our aim is to create and maintain innovative, visually arresting, environmentally sympathetic green roofs that contribute to a healthier, more diverse, greener and cleaner environment.
Lee Evans is the lead carpenter and installer. A City and Guild’s qualified carpenter, Lee has worked and trained with leading green roof practitioners in the UK and Switzerland. His experience of green roofs began with the weekend course offered by The Green Roof Training Company in association with Brighton Permaculture Trust, and we are happy to be able to support the work done by livingroofs.org to raise awareness of the benefits and possibilities offered by green roofs.
Organic Roofs are involved in several efforts to raise public awareness of their benefits, including an ongoing campaign to introduce green roofs to bus shelters, bike & buggy parks, and communal refuse storage around Brighton & Hove.
We can retrofit many structures with a living roof, including sheds, garages, summer houses, as well as your house roof itself – whether pitched or flat – and we also offer a design service for new car-ports, garden buildings and outhouses and more.
We undertake all aspects of interior and exterior construction and renovation but our commitment to a genuinely sustainable programme of building means that we take very seriously the need to help you limit the impact of your project. With the reduce/reuse/recycle ethos in mind, we encourage the use of locally grown and milled timber - we have partner suppliers for oak and Sussex grown sweet chestnut, for example - and have developed links with the Brighton Woodstore Recycling Project to ensure that any reusable timber is collected and re-used.
No two projects are alike and in some cases the structural constraints mean that the use of a lightweight sedum roof is a necessary compromise. However, our intention is that every Organic Roof should make as significant as possible a contribution to increasing urban biodiversity and we aim wherever possible to install wild flower and grass roofs which are a rich habitat for invertebrates and rare birds.
