Reason for Green Roof

The scheme comprises 450 private residential apartments varying between 6 and 11 storeys together with 7,500 m2 of leisure / retail facilities and 200 car parking spaces located within the basement. The building comprises a series of courtyard spaces both private and public. Green roofs are situated in three locations; the main high level roofs above retail development, lower courtyard spaces and above under croft parking areas.

Build up of Roof

The waterproofing comprised Axter's ALPAFLORE two layer polyester reinforced polymer modified bitumen roof membranes incorporating anti-root additives. There was a need to install a reservoir board to retain water in dry weather, protect the waterproof membranes from mechanical damage, allow quick drainage of storm water and to accommodate all the finishes; planted areas, hard surfacing, cast concrete etc. Axter's BAC CANALIS made from recycled plastic reservoir board was chosen as being the ideal product for this purpose.

Comments

The apartments proved to be so desirable that 95% were sold prior to completion.

The development now features in Sheffield University's tours of green roofs.

Completion Date

July 2004
