Type of Development

To create a mixed landscaped podium deck for residential recreation areas.

Five/six metre high mature magnolias were used to provide a change of planting type normally used by Bristol City Council and to create more varied interest as the project is on the waterfront.

Reason for Green Roof

This exclusive waterfront development needed a high specification and high quality landscape scheme to provide an outdoor leisure area for enjoyment of the residents of the apartments.

Mounded embankments, trees and turf areas were bordered by highly decorative resin bond paving.

Type of Roof

Integritank liquid applied

Size of Green Roof

2500m2

Details of Green Roof Element

Build rigid drainage layer to withstand site traffic.
Filter fabric to keep the drainage clear.
Imported natural soils for planting and grass areas.
Other materials included oak planters, decorative concrete edging and paving.

Comments

The project was carried out during the autumn of 2007 and we worked closely with waterproof trades whose job was made more difficult by adverse weather.

Three thousand tonnes of soil was imported from local sources which provided logistical problems in securing this quantity from one source.

We also planted large specimen trees and the impact of this changed the whole personae of the development in an instant.
