Reason for Green Roof

To provide an educational area for the pupils, helping them learn about different types of plants and flowers. Also to provide an aesthetically pleasing finish and help the school be sustainable, environmentally friendly and carbon neutral.

Build up of Roof

Intensive: Decothane Root Resistant waterproofing membrane, Geodrain drainage layer, filter fleece, 200mm topsoil/compost, perennials, mixed shrubs and wallflowers.

Extensive: Decothane Root Resistant waterproofing membrane, Biodrain drainage layer, filter fleece, sedum compost and sedum blanket.

Comments

This brand new school building is one of two Ilford 'extended schools' planned for construction. They incorporate sustainable features, whilst serving the surrounding community. The roof also features a prominently displayed roof mounted photovoltaic array. Made up of bolt-on poly-crystalline modules, the array will provide 30.36 kWp of carbon free energy to the school.
