The MOHO concept has been developed by city living specialists Urban Splash and is the first ever private housing scheme in the UK where all 102 apartments have been constructed in a factory before being fitted together on site.

Reason for Green Roof

In keeping with the development's cutting edge philosophy, Urban Splash commissioned architects Shed KM and roofing experts Icopal to develop a ground level, courtyard-style green roof/garden scheme to cover storage buildings, an underground car park and to offer residents of the overlooking apartments a pleasant view.

Working with contractors Helix Roofing and Greenscape, Icopal worked on a multi-level scheme comprising trees, shrubs, sedum matting, wooden decking and lighting areas. The original 400 m² surface area was modified to contain a two-metre-deep tree pit, which was waterproofed and tanked using a heat activated vapour control layer, thermazone insulation, total torch vapour dispersion layer and technotorch sanded bituminous felt. Lightweight aggregates and a soil layer were then added in preparation for the tree planting

The FRA judges commented: “This project is a good example of a single supplier working with a design team to achieve an appropriate finish to an interesting scheme. The result is an extremely aesthetically pleasing and innovative design with good technical solutions, complex detailing and an environmentally pleasing appearance.”
