Hornton Court is a red brick Edwardian Building that has been converted into luxury apartments. Situated within the affluent area of Kensington next to Hyde Park, it has recently undergone a facelift by the inclusion of roof terraces to the front of the building. Originally, it was thought that the asphalt underneath the paving would have to be stripped up, thus causing considerable disruption to tenants and to the shop owners who were insistent that their businesses remained open throughout. However, Bauder was able to offer the Architect a roofing programme that eliminated this difficult and inconvenient scenario. |

Reason for Green Roof |
Traditionally designed with ornate gardens which were removed some years previous to allow the whole area to be paved, the brief was to find a green roof refurbishment to echo the original gardens, but with modern materials that would be versatile and able to meet all current building regulations. The waterproofing build up beneath would have to be as lightweight as possible, whilst durable enough to withstand not only plant and soil loadings, but paved areas which would be subject to foot traffic. |

Comments |
Winner of FRA 2009 Awards, Best Refurbishment Green Roof Project, only project deemed worthy of been short listed. The Bauder intensive green roof system has provided Kensington High Street with a row of ornate gardens that look equally at home today as they would have within the Edwardian era, and, with the robustness of the waterproofing build up underneath to support the plants, will be there for the future too. |
