Reason for Green Roof

Sheffield City Council (SCC) was selected as a Building Schools for the Future (BSF) Pathfinder Authority.  This involved developing benchmarks for the future progression of BSF nationally. It was decided Bio-diverse roofs would be implemented on all Phase 1 schools in Sheffield (including Silverdale) as part of the Government programme and in recognition of the environmental and sustainable benefits they offer.

Details of Green Roof Element

The roof was built with no falls. The build up consisted of:
- A tanking grade waterproofing membrane
- 120mm Insulation board
- ABG's Finesse Deckdrain incorporating a filter fleece
- 75mm crushed brick (25% compost)
- Seeded with a wildflower mix and a green roof perennial mix to enhance and encourage habitat creation.
