Liquid Plastics Brings Roofs to Life
Recognising the substantial growth of the Green Roof Market and the many economic and environmental benefits associated with Green Roofs, Liquid Plastics has launched its range of Green Roof Systems - and as an active member of the green roof market, the company is supporting www.livingroofs.org.
Liquid Plastics' Extensive and Intensive Green Roof Systems are unique in that they include a completely seamless and cold applied Decothane EC Root Resistant (RR) Grade Waterproofing System.
Decothane is an elastomeric, waterproofing membrane with a long successful track record of applications around the world. And with its moisture triggered, polyurethane system cold applied in liquid form, it eliminates the need for any heat or naked flame during application. Not only does this make it extremely safe and simple to apply, but once installed Decothane also meets the highest fire retardant standards available, including DD ENV 1187 : 2002 Test Method 1, 2 and 3; FM (Factory Mutual) approval; and approval by the LPCB (Loss Prevention Certification Board). In addition Decothane has also achieved ETA (European Technical Approval) and is part of the only Inverted Roof System in the UK to be independently certified by the BBA (British Board of Agrément), including for use as a Green Roof.
Its liquid application means that Decothane can easily encapsulate detail work and upstands within its seamless, elastomeric membrane without the risk of joints and other weak points that could lead to earlier failure of the waterproofing system. It is also this elasticity that allows Decothane to absorb any structural movement without cracking. Furthermore all work can be carried out with minimal disruption and without the need to close the building.
As part of a Green Roof System, an embedment coat of Decothane is applied and fully reinforced with glass fibre matting. Once cured, a topcoat of Decothane EC RR ensures completely seamless waterproof protection, which is guaranteed for at least 25 years - Liquid Plastics recommends installation is carried out by one of its Quality Assured (QA) Contractors to ensure the best possible application and in order to achieve a Single Point Guarantee covering materials and labour. To complete the roof Liquid Plastics' specialist Green Roof Partner, Greenfix Ltd., installs an Extensive or Intensive Green Roof build-up.
Liquid Plastics' Green Roof Systems are made up of a warm, inverted or cold roof design with the addition of Biodrain or Geodrain drainage layer (depending on the chosen Green Roof System), both of which are made from recycled materials. A Filter Fleece is also included to prevent debris such as soil and seeds passing through and blocking up the system. The final stage is to install the growing medium and vegetation to complete the chosen design.
The new Green Roof Systems continue Liquid Plastics' ethos of being an expansive and innovative company. Since the company's formation in 1963, Liquid Plastics has manufactured high performance waterproofing systems, which combine all the inherent advantages of liquid roofing. These systems offer levels of performance and reliability that are unsurpassed by other conventional counterparts.
